Columbia

Columbia refers to Columbia Yachts Corporation, a major American sailboat manufacturer that operated from 1960 to 1991. Founded by Richard 'Dick' Valdes in Costa Mesa, California, Columbia became one of America's largest fiberglass yacht manufacturers. Working with designers including William Crealock, Sparkman & Stephens, and others, Columbia produced a wide range of sailboats from 22 to 57 feet. Notable models included the Columbia 26, 29, 34, and larger cruising yachts. Columbia boats were known for solid construction, traditional styling, and good value. The company helped establish Southern California as a major yacht building center and made quality sailboats accessible to middle-class sailors.
