Ed Davis

Ed Davis is a Maine-based designer and builder known for practical, seaworthy small craft. He has personally cruised the Bahamas in various boats, including a modified surf dory inspired by this concept. Tropic Bird was developed as a camp-cruising evolution of traditional North Shore dories. It directly inspired Laingdon Schmitt's Sparrow (featured in WoodenBoat) and other home builds like Avocet. Ed Davis has also built or cruised in boats ranging from a Spray replica to his own Tropic Bird variants.
