Freedom Yachts

Freedom Yachts, founded by Garry Hoyt in the late 1970s, revolutionized sailing with their unstayed rig designs (Freedom rig). The company produced boats from 21 to 44 feet featuring carbon fiber masts with no shrouds or stays, making sailing simpler and safer. Hoyt's designs emphasized ease of handling, with the Freedom rig allowing quick tacking and elimination of rigging adjustments. Notable models included the Freedom 25, 30, 35, and 40. The innovative rig design reduced deck hardware, simplified sailing, and provided excellent performance. While the company eventually ceased production, Freedom Yachts demonstrated how innovative thinking could improve the sailing experience.
