Marieholm
Marieholm refers to Marieholm Bruk AB, a historic Swedish boatbuilding company based in Marieholm, Småland, that became synonymous with high-quality fiberglass sailboats from the 1960s through the 1980s. Founded in 1920 as a metal foundry and engineering works, the company pivoted to marine production post-WWII, launching its first fiberglass sailboat in 1962. Under the leadership of Åke Sundstedt, Marieholm gained global fame for pioneering mass-produced, durable GRP (glass-reinforced plastic) yachts—most notably the International Folkboat (IF Boat) and the Marieholm 26—which combined Scandinavian craftsmanship, seaworthiness, and affordability. At its peak in the 1970s, the yard produced up to 50 boats per month, exporting widely to Europe, North America, and Australia. Production ceased in 1989 when the company was sold and restructured, but its legacy endures through active one-design classes, restored classics, and a 2023 revival of the IF Boat by German licensee Seacamper.
