American Mariner Industries

American Mariner Industries (AMI) was a short-lived American sailboat manufacturer founded by Arthur S. Henry in 1976, specializing in affordable fiberglass cruisers with innovative features for enhanced interior space and stability. Henry's designs incorporated a patented "stabilizer keel" (recessed cabin sole into the keel), which increased headroom while maintaining a low profile, marketed as a unique selling point for family-oriented vessels. Operating during the late 1970s economic boom in boating, AMI produced a limited range of models, emphasizing amenities in compact hulls. Like many small builders, it succumbed to the early 1980s recession and bankruptcy, with some molds possibly shared with Reinell Co. (leading to similar "American" branded boats). AMI's output paralleled the accessibility of O'Day or Bauer Boats but focused on clever engineering for entry-level cruisers, with ~100–200 units estimated built.
