X Boat 372 Sport Fractional Rig
Description
The X-372 Sport Fractional Rig (also known as the X Boat 372 Sport Frac or X-372 Sport) is the performance-oriented variant of the X-372 cruiser-racer designed by Niels Jeppesen for X-Yachts of Denmark. Produced from 1987 to 1992 as part of the overall series (with 120 hulls built across both masthead "Prestige" and fractional "Sport" versions), the Sport model featured a 7/8 fractional sloop rig with tiller steering standard, a deeper lead-bulbed fin keel for a lower center of gravity, and a focus on enhanced sailing performance while retaining comfortable accommodations for fast cruising or racing. It shares the same fiberglass sandwich construction with internal galvanized steel frame, fin keel with spade rudder, and practical interior as the standard model but delivers a more powerful mainsail-driven sail plan suited to a wide range of conditions, with running backstays for fine trim. The design marked a shift away from strict IOR rules toward versatile, stiff, and responsive performance yachts.
