Trac 14

Description

The Trac 14 (also known as the TRAC-14 or AMF Trac 14) is a lightweight fiberglass catamaran sailing dinghy designed as a one-design racer and recreational daysailer. Originally an Australian design called the Surfcat (1976) and later the Windrush 14, it was licensed and produced in the United States by AMF Alcort (a division of AMF Inc.) starting in 1980. At 14 feet in length, it's a trailerable, beach-launchable catamaran ideal for beginners, families, or solo sailors on lakes, bays, or calm coastal waters. The boat emphasizes simplicity, stability, and ease of handling, with a fractional sloop rig and no centerboards or daggerboards—relying on the hulls for lift. Its narrow beam (reducible for trailering) and low weight make it highly portable, but it's not suited for heavy weather or offshore use due to its small size and lack of flotation in some descriptions (though owners report positive buoyancy). Over 1,500 units were built, making it relatively common in the used market, though parts can be scarce today.

Custom sail calculations are not possible for this boat as no I, J, P and E dimensions are available.

Disclaimer. Boats are not all the same -- even when produced in the same factory of the same model. Sailrite does its best to publish accurate dimensions, but we often find it worthwhile to have our customers measure their boats carefully before we produce kits for them. You should take the same precautions, especially when the data is not from Sailrite.
