Spencer Sunstar 28

Spencer Sunstar 28

Description

Sunstar 28 (also known as the Spencer Sunstar 28 or simply a variant of the Sun 28/Sun 27 family) is a 28-foot fiberglass masthead sloop designed for coastal cruising with some club-racing potential. It evolved from the Sun 27 (itself derived from the earlier Cheetah 26 by Edwin Monk Jr.), with design contributions and modifications attributed to Robert Perry (notably stern revisions and deck/cabin tweaks for better headroom and aesthetics) and Edwin Monk Jr. (hull origins). The boat was built by Spencer Boats Ltd. in Richmond, BC, Canada, primarily from around 1980–1985 (after the original Sun 27 production by Reinell ended). Spencer versions are often regarded as higher quality, with minor changes like a reworked transom for an LPG locker, making the LOA slightly longer than the original 27.5-foot Sun 27. Total production of the Sunstar 28 was modest (roughly 65–75 units), and boats are scattered across North America and beyond.
