Sovereign 5.0

Description

The Sovereign 5.0 is a compact, trailerable daysailer and pocket cruiser designed by the Sovereign Design Group and built by Sovereign Yacht Co., Inc. (later Custom Fiberglass Products of Florida, Inc.) in St. Petersburg, Florida, from 1982 to approximately 1997. This 18-foot fractional sloop draws inspiration from classic trailer-sailors like the Cornish Shrimper, blending traditional aesthetics with modern fiberglass construction for easy towing and single-handed sailing. With its stubby keel, pop-top cabin, and gaff-rigged sailplan, it's perfect for weekend escapes on lakes, bays, or coastal waters—sleeping two in the cuddy while offering a spacious open cockpit for four. Known for its seaworthiness in light chop and simplicity (no backstay, minimal rigging), the 5.0 was part of Sovereign's lineup of affordable, no-nonsense boats that emphasized quality amid Florida's 1980s boating boom.
