Seafair 32
Description
The Seafair 32 is a distinctive 32-foot masthead sloop designed by legendary Pacific Northwest naval architect Ben Seaborn in the early 1960s and primarily built by Martin Monson yard starting in 1954. Only approximately 12 to 13 of these vessels were ever built, making them rare sightings outside of the Puget Sound and Salish Sea. Characterized by a remarkably narrow beam and a "needle" hull profile, the Seafair 32 was ahead of its time, featuring a fin keel and masthead sloop rig in an era when heavy-displacement full-keel designs were still the norm. The Seafair 32 is a light sailboat. It is stable / stiff and has an excellent righting capability if capsized. It is best suited as a coastal cruiser. The first of the class, named Romp, served as the Seaborn family's personal vessel, cementing the model's status as a showcase for the designer's philosophy of speed and efficiency in the challenging light-to-moderate airs of the Northwest. The boat features wooden construction with a displacement of 8,000 lbs and a ballast-to-displacement ratio of 37.5%, making it exceptionally light for its era while maintaining excellent stability characteristics.
