Scanmar 31 (31A)
Description
The Scanmar 31 (also known as the Scanmar 31/31A) is a classic Swedish-built pocket cruiser/racer-cruiser from the 1980s, produced by Börjesson Brothers (Scanmar Yachts) in Sweden. Designed by Rolf Magnusson (with interior layouts influenced by Nils-Erik Olofsson), it's part of the respected Scanmar series emphasizing solid Scandinavian craftsmanship, seaworthiness, good performance, and comfortable accommodations in a compact package. Built from 1983 to around 1988–1990 (with the 31A variant introduced in 1985 featuring a proper aft cabin with folding door instead of the original's layout), fewer than 200 hulls were produced total for the model. It's a fiberglass monohull with a fin keel and spade rudder, fractional sloop rig (smaller headsails for easier tacking, good upwind ability, and balanced handling), tiller steering, and a reputation for being fun to sail, easy to handle single-handed (halyards led aft to cockpit), dry in a seaway, and capable for coastal/offshore passages in moderate conditions.
