Scampi 30 Standard Rig
Description
The Scampi 30 is a classic Swedish cruiser-racer from the early IOR era, designed by Peter Norlin as his very first yacht design and an International Offshore Rule Half Ton class contender that achieved remarkable success both on the racecourse and commercially. Introduced in 1970, the prototype dominated the 1969 Half Ton Cup (under RORC rules), leading to production in four evolving versions (Mk I through Mk IV) by multiple builders including Älvdalsplast AB, Shipman Sweden AB, Albin Marine (Sweden), Nautic Saintonge (France), Yamaha Corporation (Japan, as the Yamaha 30), and Solna Corporation (US), with total production of about 1,000 boats across all marks until it ceased in 1982. It proved hugely influential, winning or placing highly in multiple Half Ton Cups (e.g., 1-2-3 sweep in 1971 for Mk III), and remains supported by an active Swedish class association (Scampiförbundet) that organizes racing events. Key features include a fast, upwind-pointing hull with a distinctive hard midships chine for stiffness, good accommodations for a family or crew of 5 (V-berth forward, salon settees, aft quarter berth, galley, and head), solid fiberglass construction with teak trim, and a balanced performance that excels in coastal racing or cruising while being forgiving and competitive in mixed fleets.
