Robb 35
Description
The Robb 35 (often called the Cheoy Lee Robb 35) is a classic mid-century cruising sailboat designed by renowned British naval architect Arthur Robb (a New Zealander by birth, known for balanced, seaworthy designs with elegant lines). It was primarily built by Cheoy Lee Shipyard in Hong Kong from the early 1960s onward (some sources cite starting around 1961, with production into the later decade). This model followed the success of Robb's popular Lion Class (a 35-foot racer/cruiser that won multiple Sydney-Hobart Races in the late 1950s/early 1960s). Early examples were often teak-planked on ipol (or similar) frames, reflecting Cheoy Lee's wooden boat heritage, while many 1960s+ hulls shifted to fiberglass (GRP) construction for durability and lower maintenance—though they retained extensive teak brightwork on decks, cabin trunks, joinery, and interiors for that timeless classic aesthetic. Variants include sloop and yawl rigs (the yawl being less common but prized for offshore balance).
