Ranger Minto

Ranger Minto

Description

The Ranger Minto is a compact, trailerable fiberglass sailing/rowing dinghy designed by Heine Dole and originally built by Ed Hoppen at the Eddon Boat Yard in Port Townsend, Washington, starting in 1960. Production was licensed to Ranger Boats in the mid-1960s, where it continued into the 1970s, with later builds by Rich Passage Boats from 2005–2012. Around 200 units were produced overall, making it a niche classic favored as a yacht tender, pond boat, or coastal daysailer. Its unstayed cat rig and daggerboard setup emphasize simplicity and fun for solo sailors or families, blending stable rowing characteristics with lively performance under sail. Owners highlight its seaworthiness for a 9-footer—capable of crossing straits in tow without swamping—and versatility for beaching or towing behind larger vessels.
