Description
The PT-22, also known as the Plas-Trend 22 or Mustang 22, is a compact American trailerable sailboat designed by Martin Bludworth, a Texas-based sailmaker, designer, and avid racer. First built in 1969 by Plas-Trend Corporation in Fort Worth, Texas (later Composite Technologies/Island Yacht Corp), production ran through the early 1970s with only about 40 hulls made—making it a rare, cult-classic fiberglass boat today. Originally conceived as a Midget Ocean Racing Club (MORC) racer and daysailer/racer, this vessel features a keel/centerboard configuration with spade rudder and masthead sloop rig. The boat's design prioritized performance and trailability, making it suitable for both competitive racing and recreational day sailing. With its light displacement of 2,000 pounds and generous sail plan, it delivers excellent light-air performance while remaining stable and stiff.
