Piver 40 Ketch (Victress 40)

Piver 40 Ketch (Victress 40)

Description

The Piver 40 Ketch refers to the Victress 40 (or Piver Victress 40), Arthur Piver's flagship 40-foot ketch-rigged cruising trimaran from the mid-1960s. This was one of his most prominent and historically significant designs, built primarily for offshore and bluewater cruising with a focus on seaworthiness, comfort, and amateur construction using marine plywood sheathed in fiberglass. It represented the pinnacle of his plywood-based, home-build-friendly multihull series before larger charter-oriented models like the Empress 64. The Victress was promoted as a full-cruising trimaran capable of extended voyages, with a stable, wide platform (demountable beams for trailering/transport in some setups) and the classic Piver ama (float) design: sharp, deep-V shapes for lift, reduced drag, a comfortable ride in waves, and surfing performance downwind in strong conditions.
