Description
The Ohlson 8:8 (also written as Ohlson 8.8 or OHLSON 8.8) is a popular Swedish family cruiser designed by naval architect Einar Ohlson in the early 1970s (first drawing around 1970), responding to demand for a modern, affordable, seaworthy fiberglass production boat; it was built primarily by Bröderna Ohlson (Ohlson Brothers) in Sweden, with initial production at Karlskronavarvet for the first boats before shifting to other yards associated with the family; production ran from around 1970 to 1982, with approximately 325 units built, making it one of the more successful Ohlson designs for family coastal and offshore cruising; features include a fin keel (with bulb in some descriptions) and spade rudder for responsive handling, masthead sloop rig for easy sail management, comfortable interior sleeping 4–6 people (often with 1 cabin plus saloon berths), good headroom (around 1.85 m), and auxiliary diesel power.
