Westerly Ocean Master 48
Description
The Oceanmaster 48 (also known as Westerly Oceanmaster 48) is a premium British bluewater center-cockpit cruiser built by Westerly Yachts Ltd. (later Westerly Marine Construction Ltd.) in Hamble, UK, from 1989 to 1992, with 24 hulls constructed in fiberglass (GRP) under Lloyd's approved scantlings. It was designed by Ed Dubois (a leading British naval architect for spacious, seaworthy family cruisers with strong offshore pedigree). As Westerly's flagship ocean-going model, it evolved from the Sealord and Oceanlord series, emphasizing fast, safe passage-making with a center cockpit for protection, retroussé stern for aesthetics and handling, and exceptional interior volume/comfort (typically owner's cabin aft with 6–8 berths in 3 dedicated cabins + saloon, spacious galley/heads, nav station, and ample tankage/storage for liveaboard/extended cruising). It's renowned for robust build quality, seaworthiness (proven in Atlantic crossings and ARC rallies), reassuring stability, and satisfying performance—often compared to Hallberg-Rassy or similar high-end Europeans but at a more accessible price point in its era.
