Nordica 16
Description
The Nordica 16 is a compact, trailerable fiberglass daysailer and pocket cruiser designed by Danish naval architect Ole Jensen and built by Exe Fibercraft in Canada starting in 1975. Over 400 units were produced, with similar variants including the Danica 16 (built in Denmark), Midget 15 (Sweden), and Oostzeejol (Germany). Derived from the Swedish Lynæs 14, it features a double-ended hull with a full long keel for stability and tracking, a transom-hung rudder, and a fractional sloop rig for easy single-handing. Ideal for coastal or lake use, it includes a small cuddy cabin with two 6'8" berths for overnighting 2 adults, plus an open cockpit seating 4. Powered by a small outboard (typically 4-6 hp), it's lightweight and portable (under 1,000 lbs trailering weight), praised for its seaworthiness in chop, forgiving handling, and classic lines—though its modest sail area limits speed in light air.
