Myth
Description
The Myth is a custom 55-foot maxi ketch sailboat designed by Dave Mix, a lesser-known but talented naval architect known for high-performance, owner-built or custom cruising yachts in the 1980s–1990s era. This one-off or very limited-production vessel (likely a single hull or small series) features advanced construction for its time, including an Airex-cored hull with triaxial fiberglass layup, a carbon fiber winged fin keel for enhanced upwind efficiency and reduced drag, and a spade rudder. The maxi ketch rig provides a balanced sail plan suitable for long-distance bluewater cruising with shorthanded capability, emphasizing speed, stability, and comfort. With a loaded displacement around 25,000 lbs, it's relatively light for its size, offering good performance while maintaining seaworthiness for offshore passages. The design prioritizes modern materials and engineering to blend racing-like handling with cruising amenities (spacious interior, good tankage, and accommodations for extended voyages).
