Maxi 77
Description
The Maxi 77 is the iconic Swedish pocket cruiser that launched the hugely successful Maxi series, designed by Pelle Petterson (Olympic medalist in the Star class and designer of the Volvo P1800 car). Built by Maxi Yachts (Pelle Petterson AB), Mölnlycke Marin, and Börjesson Brothers from 1972 to 1983, an astonishing ~3,900 hulls were produced—making it one of the most popular production sailboats ever, especially in Sweden (over 1,500 sold there) and exported to more than 14 countries. It revolutionized accessible family sailing with its affordable price, innovative features (like a bulb keel, sharp chines for stability, and spacious layout), and solid fiberglass build. This is a masthead sloop with a fin keel (standard or optional shallow draft) and transom-hung rudder. It's known for being stiff, forgiving, easy to handle (great for families or beginners), and surprisingly roomy for its size—often called a "maxi" in comfort, space, and performance.
