Description
The Mariner 38 (often listed as the Mariner 38 Pilot House or Mariner 38 Pilothouse Cutter/Sloop) is a rugged, bluewater-capable cruiser built by Mariner Yacht Co. in East Rochester, New Hampshire (USA), starting around 1980. Designed by Eric White, it's a heavy-displacement, full-keel (or long-keel) boat emphasizing seaworthiness, comfort in rough conditions, and protection from the elements via its distinctive pilothouse—perfect for northern latitudes, extended coastal/offshore cruising, or liveaboard use. The "Long Cabin" variant likely refers to configurations with an extended or full-length cabin trunk (as opposed to shorter deckhouses), often paired with the pilothouse for maximum interior volume and headroom. Most examples feature a sloop or staysail ketch rig, with the pilothouse providing an inside helm station for bad weather. Only a limited number were built (Mariner Yacht Co. folded in the early 1980s due to high standards and economic pressures), making them rare and sought-after classics.
