Malabar Sr
Description
The Malabar Sr. (Alden), also known as the Malabar Senior, is a classic wooden sailboat designed by legendary American naval architect John G. Alden (Alden Design #917) and built primarily by LeComte Yachts from 1955 to 1961, with additional units by Burr Brothers and other yards in the USA, Canada, Australia, and Hong Kong (total ~50–60 built). Featuring a long keel, keel-hung rudder, spooned bow, and counter stern, it emphasizes seaworthiness and comfort for coastal and blue water cruising. Powered by an inboard diesel or gasoline auxiliary (typically 20–30 hp), with wheel steering and optional short bowsprit for roller-furling genoa over club-footed jib, it's a heavy-displacement cruiser ideal for long passages.
