Macgregor 26 X

Description

The MacGregor 26X is a trailerable fiberglass hybrid sailboat and powerboat designed by Roger MacGregor and built by MacGregor Yacht Corporation in Costa Mesa, California, from 1996 to 2003. As a successor to the MacGregor 26S and 26D, the 26X introduced a revolutionary "sailboat-motorsailer" concept, combining sailing performance with high-speed powerboating capabilities (up to 24 knots with a 50 hp outboard). It uses a water-ballast system (1,400 lb when filled, drained for trailering) and a daggerboard for shallow-water access, making it versatile for coastal cruising, lake sailing, or family outings. With over 5,000 units sold, it’s celebrated for its affordability, spacious interior (6' headroom), and ease of trailering, though critics note its lightweight construction can feel tender in heavy seas without ballast. The 26X was replaced by the MacGregor 26M (2003–2013), which added a rotating mast.
