Laurin 32
Description
The Laurin 32, also known as the Laurin-Koster 32, is a classic Swedish long-keel cruising sailboat designed by naval architect Arvid Laurin in the early 1960s and produced from 1964 to 1988 by builders such as Arla Plastindustries and Norrlandsplast in Sweden. With around 232 hulls built, this 32-foot masthead sloop (with ketch variants rare) emphasizes seaworthiness, stability, and traditional aesthetics, making it ideal for coastal cruising, family adventures, or light offshore passages in northern European waters like the Baltic Sea. Featuring a full-bodied hull with a wineglass transom, narrow beam for slicing through chop, and heavy iron ballast for stiffness, it's renowned for its "legendary stability" in rough conditions—one of the few sub-10m designs considered truly bluewater-capable. The cozy teak interior sleeps 4-5 comfortably, with a practical galley and nav station, though it's more of a weekend cruiser than a liveaboard due to modest headroom. Constructed initially in wood and later fiberglass (GRP), the Laurin 32 blends vintage charm with forgiving handling, often described as a "moderate performer" that's very stiff and self-righting if capsized. It's a cult favorite in Scandinavia for its durability (many still sailing after 50+ years) and value, though light-air speed requires patience.
