Laguna 33
Description
The Laguna 33 is a rare, mid-sized coastal cruising sailboat designed by W. Shad Turner and built briefly by Laguna Yachts in the mid-1980s. Based on the hull of the more common Laguna 30, it features an extended reverse transom for added cockpit space and improved aesthetics, making it a sleeker evolution aimed at family sailors seeking comfortable accommodations with moderate performance. With a masthead sloop rig and fin keel, it offers a spacious interior sleeping up to 6–7 (including dinette conversion) and a layout optimized for ease of handling on weekends or short passages. Known for its integrated hull-keel joint to minimize leaks and generous sail plan for light-air performance, the 33 is a capable coastal cruiser with potential for longer trips when prepped. Production was extremely limited—possibly fewer than 20 units—and it's often conflated with the later Classic 33.
