Laguna 26

Description

The Laguna 26 was designed by W. Shad Turner and first built in 1982 by Laguna Yachts, a California-based manufacturer founded by Bill Downing in the early 1980s. Laguna acquired assets and molds from Coastal Recreation, Inc. (which produced the Balboa and Aquarius lines), rebranding and refining several designs to meet the growing demand for trailerable cruisers amid the 1980s sailing boom. The Laguna 26 evolved directly from the Windrose 26 (introduced in 1977), utilizing the same hull molds but with updated deck and cabin features for improved ventilation and aesthetics, reflecting Turner's focus on practical adaptations for mass production. Production ran from 1982 until 1987, when Laguna Yachts ceased operations due to economic pressures, including the 1986 luxury yacht tax, rising material costs, and market saturation. The brief run captured the era's emphasis on affordable fiberglass boats, with the 26 marketed as a step up from smaller trailerables like the Laguna 22. Post-closure, some molds were repurposed under the Classic Yachts banner in Kansas,
