Islander Bahama 30
Description
The Islander Bahama 30 is a classic fiberglass sailboat designed by Robert Finch and built by Islander Yachts (later associated with Tradewind Yachts) in Newport Beach, California, from 1973 to 1986. It's an evolution of the Islander 30 Mk II, sharing the same hull but featuring modifications like a different interior layout, increased sail area (about 20 sq ft more), slightly reduced displacement (by 250 lb.) and ballast (by 180 lb.), and minor fin keel and rudder tweaks for improved performance. With around 200–300 units produced, it's prized as an affordable coastal cruiser-racer from the IOR era, blending vintage aesthetics (flat sheer, maximum beam amidships, spade rudder) with stable, fast sailing characteristics. Ideal for weekend getaways, beer-can races, or short coastal trips, it offers a bright, comfortable interior and easy handling for short-handed crews. While not a blue water offshore specialist, owners have taken them on longer passages, like to Hawaii.
