Islander 27-2
Description
The Islander 27-2 is a rare, modernized cruiser-racer concept from Newport Offshore Yachts, which acquired the Islander brand and many original molds in the 1990s following Islander Yachts' 1986 bankruptcy. Introduced around 1990–1991 as a revival of the classic Islander 27 (1969–1972, designed by Alan S. Pendel, ~200–250 built), the 27-2 was entirely redesigned—likely with a beamier hull, updated rig, and improved interior for contemporary cruising and racing (estimated PHRF ~160–180). Intended as a trailerable or coastal performer for 2–4, it emphasized ease of handling, stability, and value, but production was extremely limited or possibly non-existent due to market challenges and the yard's focus on larger models. Documentation is sparse, with no active class association or owner reviews, making it a "ghost boat" in Islander lore.
