Hood 20

Description

The Hood 20 is a classic Australian fiberglass trailerable pocket cruiser designed by Warwick Hood and built by Stoddart Bros Marine in Sydney, Australia, starting in 1967. Warwick Hood, a prominent naval architect known for his offshore racers and cruisers, created the Hood 20 as an affordable, seaworthy weekender for coastal cruising and family sailing. With its moderate displacement, high ballast ratio, and masthead sloop rig, it's stable and stiff in breezes, offering a dry ride for its size despite the low freeboard. The design features a flush deck for safety and a spacious cockpit, but the low companionway can allow cockpit water into the cabin— a common mod is to raise the hatch coaming. Production ran into the 1970s (~100+ hulls), with later units by CAL Yachts in the U.S.
