Hinterhoeller GT26
Description
The Hinterhoeller GT-26 (also known as the GT 26 or Hinterhoeller GT26) is a Canadian cat-rigged daysailer/cruiser from the early 1980s, designed by George Hinterhoeller (founder of Hinterhoeller Yachts and creator of the iconic Shark 24). It features a distinctive cat (Marconi) rig — a single unstayed mast with a large mainsail and no jib/foresail — emphasizing simplicity, easy handling, and low maintenance. This makes it appealing for shorthanded sailing, beginners, or those wanting a clean, clutter-free deck. The boat is a fiberglass monohull with a modern, lightweight design focused on performance and fun on protected waters, lakes, bays, or coastal areas. It's trailerable, responsive, and known for good speed in moderate winds, with a reputation for solid build quality from the Hinterhoeller yard. Built by Hinterhoeller Yachts Ltd. (St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada) starting in 1983. Production was limited (exact numbers not widely published, but low — likely dozens, as it's a niche model from the company's later years before shifts to Nonsuch cat-rigged boats).
