Description
The Hallberg-Rassy 42 (often specified as the Hallberg-Rassy 42F, with "F" denoting Frers design) is a premium Swedish bluewater cruiser designed by Germán Frers and built by Hallberg-Rassy Varv in Sweden from 1990 to 2001, with 181 hulls produced (53 as Mk I from 1990–1994, and 128 as Mk II from 1994–2001). This center-cockpit masthead sloop (with some ketch options in related variants) emphasizes exceptional seaworthiness, comfort, and build quality for extended offshore or ocean cruising, featuring solid fiberglass construction, a fin keel with partial skeg-hung rudder for balanced handling and protection, lead ballast on a deep bilge, high freeboard, protective windscreen, and a spacious, luxurious interior (teak/mahogany joinery, multiple cabins including aft stateroom, dual heads, full galley, and ample storage/headroom)—ideal for couples, families, or liveaboards on long passages. The Mk II added a swim platform and developed transom for better access and aesthetics (hull, sailplan, and engine otherwise unchanged from Mk I), delivering a smooth, dry ride in heavy weather, reliable motorsailing, and respectable speed/performance.
