Guppy 16
Description
The Guppy 16 is an ultra-rare fiberglass pocket cruiser and daysailer, a larger sibling to the more common Guppy 13, designed by Ron Holder in 1976 for Melen Marine Ltd. (often misspelled as "Melon Marine") in the United States. Produced in extremely limited numbers (only about 4 hulls before the builder's bankruptcy), it features a modest cabin for solo or couple overnights, making it a trailered micro-cruiser for protected waters like lakes or bays. The molds were quickly acquired by North Shore Marine (USA), who rebranded and slightly modified it as the Sparrow 16 for continued production—essentially making the Guppy 16 a short-lived precursor to that design. Its appeal lies in its compact footprint, easy handling, and "cute" aesthetics, though its scarcity means most "Guppy 16" sightings today are actually Sparrow 16s
