Grampian 46
Description
The Grampian 46 (closely related to the US 46) is a classic Canadian bluewater cruiser-racer designed by renowned American naval architect William H. Tripp Jr. and built by Grampian Marine (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) from 1969 to 1976. Only 12 hulls were produced (very limited run, making survivors rare classics today). It descended from Tripp's US 41 center-cockpit yawl design, stretched and adapted with fiberglass construction, a masthead yawl rig (some with optional tandem centerboards for shallow draft versatility), and heavy displacement for comfortable, sea-kindly motion in offshore conditions. It's known for solid build quality, excellent stability, and suitability for extended cruising or occasional racing—though the yawl rig splits sail area for easier handling in heavy weather. Interior is practical and roomy (berths for 6–8, V-berth forward, saloon, galley, head, teak trim typical of the era, headroom ~6 ft+). Auxiliary is a diesel (e.g., ~55 hp original).
