Grampian 26

Description

The Grampian 26, designed by Scottish naval architect Alex McGruer and produced by Grampian Marine in Oakville, Ontario, from 1967 to 1977, stands as the company's most successful model with over 1,000 hulls built, earning acclaim as an affordable, spacious family cruiser despite its utilitarian, "plain Jane" aesthetics. Measuring 26 feet LOA with an 8-foot-4-inch beam, 21-foot-9-inch waterline, 5,600-pound displacement, and 2,600 pounds of ballast, it features a fixed fin keel drawing 3 feet 10 inches (or a rarer centerboard version with 2 feet 10 inches board-up/6 feet 6 inches board-down) and a masthead sloop rig on a spooned bow and transom stern, delivering modest but stable performance suited to coastal cruising (PHRF around 228, hull speed 6.3 knots). Its hand-laid fiberglass hull prioritizes durability over speed, with a large cockpit for four, 6 feet of standing headroom throughout, and a practical interior layout including a V-berth forward, enclosed head, convertible dinette, compact galley, and quarter berth for up to four—ideal for couples or small families,
