Description
The Graham Radford 14.8m (design #42, also known as the Radford 14.8m Performance Cruising Yacht) is a centre-cockpit monohull stock design from Australian naval architect Graham Radford (Radford Yacht Design). Introduced in the early 2000s, it targets experienced couples seeking a long-distance cruiser with strong performance, comfort, and shorthanded capability. The design features a modern hull shape (moderate displacement, long waterline for speed), fin keel (or optional shoal draft), skeg-hung rudder for protection and tracking, and a cutter or sloop rig (tall fractional or masthead) for versatile sail handling in varied conditions. It balances light-air efficiency with seaworthiness for offshore passages. The first yacht was built by an experienced Queensland couple (as a custom project), often in aluminum or steel (kit construction for easier building), with fiberglass/foam sandwich options possible. The interior is open and practical (2–3 cabins sleeping 6–8, owner's aft cabin in many layouts, large saloon, galley, enclosed head(s), teak or modern finishes, and good headroom ~6 ft+).
