Gloucester 20
Description
The Gloucester 20 is a compact, trailerable American pocket cruiser designed by Stuart Windley and Harry R. Sindle and built by Gloucester Yachts Inc. (successor to Lockley Newport Boats) in Gloucester, Virginia, USA, starting in 1981 (with production ending around 1988 after ~165 hulls). This fiberglass monohull fractional sloop features a swing keel (centerboard-style) for shallow draft and easy trailering/beaching, emphasizing light-air responsiveness, forgiving handling, and fun performance for 2–3 crew—ideal for lake/coastal daysailing, protected waters, or short overnights in its small cuddy cabin (V-berths forward for 2, open cockpit, minimal storage). It's a slightly larger sibling to the Gloucester 19 (more cruising-oriented with cabin space), known for stability (ballast/displacement ratio ~33%), quick tacking from the fractional rig, and easy single-handing—though it benefits from crew weight on the rail in puffs due to light displacement. Auxiliary power is typically an outboard (e.g., small 4–8 hp for calms).
