Gloucester 19 (Lockley-Newport 19, Quickstep 19)
Description
The Gloucester 19 (also known as the Gloucester 19 or Lockley-Newport 19, and later reintroduced as the Quickstep 19 after molds were acquired) is a compact, trailerable American daysailer/pocket cruiser designed by Stuart Windley and Harry R. Sindle. It was built by Gloucester Yachts (successor to Lockley Newport Boats) in Gloucester, Virginia, starting in 1983, with production ending around 1988 when the company ceased operations. This fiberglass monohull fractional sloop features a swing keel (centerboard-style) for shallow draft and easy trailering/beaching, emphasizing light-air responsiveness, forgiving handling, and fun performance for 2–3 crew—ideal for lake daysailing, protected coastal use, or short overnights in its small cuddy cabin (V-berths forward for 2, open cockpit, minimal storage). It's a downsized sibling to the Gloucester 20 (which adds more cabin space), with a reputation for stability (ballast/displacement ratio ~34%), quick tacking from the fractional rig, and easy single-handing—though it requires crew weight on the rail in puffs due to its light displacement.
