Glen-L Feather
Description
The Glen-L Feather is an 11-foot fiberglass sloop designed by Glen L. Witt, founder of Glen-L Marine, as an accessible "first project" for amateur builders using the innovative C-Flex planking method—where narrow fiberglass strips are overlapped, stapled to a temporary framework, and laminated in place, allowing most form members to be removed post-construction for a seamless, molded-like hull that's lightweight (around 200-250 pounds) and surprisingly durable. With a sleek round-bilge shape, 5'2" beam, 6" draft (daggerboard up), and a generous 110-square-foot Bermuda sloop rig, it delivers sprightly performance for daysailing, solo or with a crew of two, while its watertight flotation compartments render it unsinkable—a key feature praised by builders for family-friendly stability over "tippy" alternatives like classic Moths. Plans include full-size patterns, detailed instructions, and options for woodstrip construction or basic outboard powering; it's trailerable, rowable as a backup, and remains popular among homebuilders for its forgiving build process and elegant simplicity, with completed examples often mistaken for production boats.
