Description
The Glander Cay 23 is a classic American pocket cruiser built by Glander Boats Inc. in Tavernier and Islamorada, Florida (Keys area), from approximately 1960 to 1985, with about 112 hulls produced. Designed by Harold Glander (with strong influence from L. Francis Herreshoff's Prudence 23 wooden design), it was often sold as bare hulls, kits, or partially completed boats for owner customization—bringing traditional seaworthy lines and hand-laid fiberglass durability to a compact, heavy-displacement format. This masthead sloop features a long keel with transom-hung rudder for excellent directional stability and tracking (sea-kindly motion, dry ride despite the raised bow and generous beam), making it ideal for gunkholing in the Florida Keys/Bahamas, coastal cruising, or occasional bluewater passages—many owners praise its surprising comfort and capability in a sub-28-footer (some call it a "tiny home" or "pocket cruiser" with standing headroom ~5 ft 10 in / 1.78 m). The interior is basic but practical (V-berth forward, saloon settees convertible to berths, compact galley/head, sleeping 4 modestly), often with inboard diesel or outboard power (e.g., modern Yanmar refits).
