Description
The Gib'Sea 402 (also styled Gib Sea 402) is a capable French performance cruiser designed by Joubert/Nivelt (Michel Joubert and Bernard Nivelt) and built by Gibert Marine (Gib'Sea/Gibert Marine) in France from 1987 to 1991. With approximately 80 hulls produced (limited run, many in charter or private use), it's a fiberglass monohull masthead sloop that balances speed, seaworthiness, and comfort—strong in moderate-to-heavy airs (well-mannered and tough per owner reports), with good light-air potential from its large sail plan and forgiving handling suitable for coastal/offshore cruising or club racing. The interior is spacious and practical for its era (often 3 cabins sleeping 6–8, V-berth forward, large saloon, galley, enclosed head(s), owner's aft cabin in some layouts, teak finishes, and headroom ~6 ft+), with a reputation for solid construction (pre-Dufour takeover) and enduring appeal.
