Gib Sea 106
Description
The Gib Sea 106 (also styled Gib'Sea 106 or sometimes referred to as Gib'Sea 37 due to its ~37 ft LOA) is a popular French family cruiser-racer designed by Joubert/Nivelt (Michel Joubert and Bernard Nivelt) and built by Gibert Marine (Olivier Gibert Marine, France) from 1984 to around 1987–1991. Approximately 350–400 hulls were produced (exact numbers vary slightly across sources), many in the charter fleet (especially Mediterranean) for its affordability, roomy layout, and reliable performance. This fiberglass monohull masthead sloop emphasizes comfort and versatility: forgiving handling, good light-to-moderate wind capability from its generous sail plan, and practical accommodations (typically 2–3 cabins sleeping 6–8, V-berth forward, saloon settees, galley, enclosed head, teak/practical trim, and headroom ~6 ft+). Keel options include standard fin (~5.9 ft / 1.8 m draft) or variants like centerboard/lifting keel for shallower access; auxiliary is usually a small diesel (e.g., Volvo Penta 2003 28 hp or Yanmar equivalent).
