Georgian 23
Description
The Georgian 23 is a compact yet surprisingly capable fiberglass cruiser-racer designed by Scottish naval architect Alex McGruer (known for the Grampian line) and built by McGruer & Clark Ltd. in Port Dover, Ontario, Canada, from around 1968 to the early 1970s (limited production, estimated 50–60 hulls total, making it a rare classic today). This masthead sloop features a fin keel with spade rudder for good maneuverability and upwind performance, hand-laid fiberglass construction with a balsa-cored deck for durability, and a reputation among Great Lakes sailors (especially Ontario/Erie areas) for punching above its weight: solid stiffness, excellent stability, and surprising accommodations for a sub-24-footer, including full standing headroom (around 6'–6'2"), a V-berth forward, saloon settees, compact galley with sink/icebox, pump-out head, and quarter berths sleeping 4 modestly—ideal for weekend overnights or couples cruising.
