Galaxy 32
Description
The Galaxy 32 (often just called the Galaxy) is a classic American cruiser-racer designed by William H. Tripp Jr. (a noted naval architect known for designs like the Bermuda 40 and Hinckley Bermuda 40 derivatives). Built by American Boatbuilding Corp. and later Metalmast Marine in fiberglass from 1957 to 1974 in very small numbers (limited production), it later shared tooling with Paceship Yachts in Canada for their Paceship 32/Tripp 32 variant. This masthead sloop features a fin keel with skeg-hung rudder for good directional stability and handling, moderate displacement for comfortable motion, and solid construction typical of mid-century American boats—emphasizing seaworthiness, ease of sailing, and suitability for coastal cruising or club racing with a practical interior (V-berth forward, saloon settees, galley, head, quarter berths sleeping 5–6). It's praised for balanced performance (decent in light air, stiff and forgiving) and enduring build quality, though examples are rare today due to low production.
