Grampian G2-34
Description
The G2-34 (commonly written as Grampian G2-34 or Grampian 2-34) is a center-cockpit cruising sailboat produced by Grampian Marine (a Canadian builder based in Oakville, Ontario) in the early-to-mid 1970s (primarily 1973–1976 models). It's often called the "Passage Maker" in period ads and is designed as a comfortable, roomy long-range cruiser for coastal or bay sailing, with good protection from the center cockpit (dry ride in chop) and a private aft cabin layout ideal for couples or small families. Grampian went bankrupt in 1977, after which the molds for this model were sold (leading to some later builds or copies under different names, though most are original Grampian hulls). The design is credited to Axel Schmidt (some sources also note Charles Angle involvement in marketing or adaptations), and it's distinct from Grampian's earlier Grampian 34 (a fin-keel masthead ketch based on the Triangle 32 hull). The G2-34 emphasizes interior volume, stability, and ease of handling over outright speed—it's a moderate-displacement cruiser with a full keel or modified full keel for good tracking and shallow-ish draft options.
