FRERS 41 TALL
Description
The Frers 41 is a highly regarded performance cruiser-racer designed by renowned Argentine naval architect German Frers and built by Carroll Marine in Bristol, Rhode Island, USA, starting in 1987–1988 (with most production in 1988–1989). It was one of four Frers collaborations with Carroll Marine (alongside the 30, 33, and 38), specifically aimed at the emerging IMS rule to promote well-built, seaworthy dual-purpose boats with comfortable accommodations and competitive speed—Frers described it as combining fast hull/foil shapes with moderate displacement and a practical interior. Construction used fiberglass with a fin keel and spade rudder (some with a small skeg ahead of the rudder), triple-spreader masthead sloop rig, rod rigging, solid vang, and hydraulic backstay for efficiency. Production was limited to 23 hulls total, making it a relatively rare classic from the late-'80s era; it's praised for excellent all-around performance (strong in light-to-moderate winds, good upwind pointing, and rewarding handling), a spacious teak-trimmed interior (two private staterooms, V-berth forward, saloon, galley, head, berths sleeping 6–8 comfortably), and suitability for club racing, coastal/offshore cruising, or IMS-style events,
