Freedom 45 Center Cockpit
Description
The Freedom 45 Center Cockpit (often abbreviated as Freedom 45 CC) is an American bluewater cruising sailboat designed by naval architect Gary Mull and built by Tillotson-Pearson Inc. (under the Freedom Yachts brand) in the United States, with production starting in 1987 and running into the early to mid-1990s. It shares the same extended-stern hull as the Freedom 45 Aft Cockpit (an evolution of the Freedom 42), featuring a signature freestanding carbon fiber fractional sloop rig (no shrouds or stays for easy maintenance and flexible performance), a self-tacking jib (often on a CamberSpar), fiberglass construction, and a standard wing keel for shoal draft capability. The center cockpit layout prioritizes a spacious aft owner's stateroom (typically with ensuite head and separate shower), good privacy for couples or liveaboards, higher freeboard for drier motion at sea, and a more protected cockpit, though it offers smaller cockpit lockers, slightly reduced sail area in some configurations (due to rig variations for bridge clearance), and a different helm feel compared to the aft cockpit version; production numbers for the CC variant are not precisely documented but were limited overall for the Freedom 45 line (likely under 60 total hulls across both AC and CC).
