Fisher 37 MS
Description
The Fisher 37 (also known as the Fisher 37 MS for Motorsailer) is a classic British pilothouse ketch (with optional sloop or staysail ketch variants) designed by David Freeman and Gordon Wyatt (the Wyatt & Freeman partnership). It was introduced in 1973 (first hulls launched around then), built initially by Fairways Marine (UK), with production later handled by Northshore Yachts (who continued into the 1990s/2000s with refinements like Mk II updates). Approximately 140 hulls were built (per SailboatData and consistent sources), making it one of the more prolific models in the Fisher series (after the 25/30/31). It's a heavy-displacement, long-keeled motorsailer inspired by North Sea fishing boats and Colin Archer lifeboat lines—emphasizing seaworthiness, stability, comfort, and reliability in rough conditions. The pilothouse/wheelhouse provides protected steering, a dry cockpit, and excellent motion comfort (high ballast ratio, encapsulated keel). It's not a lightweight racer but a capable, all-weather cruiser (some have done extended offshore passages or circumnavigations). The ketch rig (standard) offers balance and short-handed options, with a powerful diesel for motoring.
