Fisher 34 MS
Description
The Fisher 34 (also known as the Fisher 34 MS for Motorsailer) is a classic British pilothouse ketch (with optional sloop rig) designed by David Freeman and Gordon Wyatt (the Wyatt & Freeman partnership). It was first launched in 1978 as the fourth model in the Fisher range (after the 25, 30, and before the 37), filling a perceived gap for a versatile, heavy-duty motor-sailer inspired by traditional Colin Archer-style lifeboats and North Sea fishing vessels. Built by Fairways Marine (UK) initially, production shifted to Northshore Yachts in 1981 (who introduced Mk II and Mk III updates in 1988–1989 with raised side decks, improved heads, galley, and fore cabin). Later hulls were also built under license by Neil Marine (Sri Lanka) and others. Exact total hull count isn't precisely documented, but estimates suggest 100–200+ across all builders and marks (popular and long-running model). It's a heavy-displacement (around 11,680 kg / 25,750 lbs in some specs), long-keeled boat prioritizing seaworthiness, comfort, and reliability over speed—excellent motion in rough seas, dry cockpit, and enclosed wheelhouse/pilothouse for all-weather steering.
