Fisher 30 Ketch

Fisher 30 Ketch

Description

The Fisher 30 Ketch (also known as the Fisher 30 MS for Motorsailer) is a classic British pilothouse ketch designed by Wyatt & Freeman (the design partnership of David Freeman and Gordon Wyatt). It was introduced in 1971 and first built by Fairways Marine (UK), with hulls initially fitted out by various contract builders before Northshore Yachts took over production in 1981 (continuing until around 1987). The model was the first and most popular in the Fisher range (which includes the 25, 31, 34, 37, and 46), with nearly 300 hulls built total across the production run. It's a heavy-displacement, long-keel motorsailer (often with a small pilothouse/wheelhouse for protected steering), inspired by North Sea fishing boats and Norwegian Colin Archer-style lifeboats. The design prioritizes seaworthiness, stability, and comfort in rough conditions over high performance—sailing is possible (and better than many motorsailers), but the powerful engine (typically 36–42 hp diesel) allows reliable motoring in calms or headwinds. The hull has deep bulwarks, a steady motion at sea, and a layout with fore cabin, saloon, and small wheelhouse (berths for 5, good headroom ~6 ft+).
